A fracture is a broken bone, a fragility fracture is a broken bone caused by low trauma, such as a fall from standing height. If you are identified as having a fragility fracture, you will be contacted by the FLS team for a bone health assessment to assess your risk of osteoporosis. If you have a high risk of future fractures, you may be recommended bone strengthening treatments. These may be prescribed by your GP or by the osteoporosis team at Pennine MSK Partnership.

In osteoporosis, the natural turnover of bone has fallen out of balance, meaning the bones can become weaker and easier to break.
The osteoporosis team assess and treat patients with osteoporosis with medications when necessary to improve their bone strength. This team includes consultants, specialist nurses and specialist pharmacists. We can support you though your assessment, diagnosis and treatment of osteoporosis. Medications may be prescribed by your GP or by the osteoporosis team at Pennine MSK Partnership.
